The Housing Choice Voucher Program is a federally funded rental assistance program which allows income eligible families to go out into the private rental market to find housing.  The families pay approximately 30 - 40% of their income for rent and DuPage Housing Authority pays a portion of the rent based on the program rules and the families income.

The Basics

  • Participant families include elderly persons, disabled persons, and working families who do not earn enough to keep pace with rising rental housing costs.
  • Once you accept one Voucher family, you do not have to accept all.
  • The rental unit should have a gross rent (rent plus utilities) equal to or less than the fair market rent for the surrounding area. See Utility allowance schedule
  • DuPage Housing Authority does not manage your property!  Its the landlord's responsibility to enforce the lease.  The landlord must address issues such as unauthorized people in the unit, drug abuse or other criminal activity in the unit.  The information should also be provided to The DHA.
  • You supply your own lease.
  • Information Packets are available.
